# ox pet

Show Oxy, SageOx's mascot, in Claude Code's thinking line, under each of Claude's replies in the Claude desktop app's Code tab, and as Codex's terminal pet. Without `--host`, each subcommand acts on every host it finds on this machine.

## Usage

<Terminal>
 <TerminalCommand>ox pet <enable|disable|status> [--host <host>]</TerminalCommand>
</Terminal>

## Subcommands

| Command | Description |
|---------|-------------|
| `ox pet enable` | Install Oxy into Claude Code and Codex, or refresh him after an ox upgrade |
| `ox pet disable` | Remove Oxy from Claude Code and Codex |
| `ox pet status` | Show whether Oxy is installed in Claude Code and Codex |

## Examples

<Terminal>
 <TerminalComment>Install Oxy into every host found on this machine</TerminalComment>
 <TerminalCommand>ox pet enable</TerminalCommand>
</Terminal>

Run it again after an ox upgrade to refresh him. The Claude desktop app has no `/reload-plugins`, so start a new Code session after `ox pet enable`.

<Terminal>
 <TerminalComment>Install Oxy into Codex only</TerminalComment>
 <TerminalCommand>ox pet enable --host codex</TerminalCommand>
</Terminal>

<Terminal>
 <TerminalComment>Check where Oxy is installed</TerminalComment>
 <TerminalCommand>ox pet status</TerminalCommand>
</Terminal>

<Terminal>
 <TerminalComment>Remove Oxy from Claude Code and keep him in Codex</TerminalComment>
 <TerminalCommand>ox pet disable --host claude-code</TerminalCommand>
</Terminal>

## Flags

| Flag | Description |
|------|-------------|
| `--host` | Host to act on: `claude-code` or `codex`. Repeatable. Default: every host found. Works with `enable`, `disable`, and `status` |

Without `--host`, the ox CLI acts on Claude Code when `claude` is on your PATH or Oxy's mod folder exists. It acts on Codex when `codex` is on your PATH or the Codex home (`$CODEX_HOME`, default `~/.codex`) exists.

## Oxy in Claude Code

In the terminal, Oxy animates beside the thinking word while Claude works and follows what it is doing. He thinks, types at his laptop, chatters out an answer, and has his own routines for `ox agent prime`, `ox query`, `ox plan`, `ox murmur`, and `ox doctor`. When a turn ends, Oxy throws confetti on the closing line, or falls flat if the turn failed.

`ox pet enable` installs him as a Claude Code plugin (`ox-cli-oxy@ox-cli-pets`) at user scope. Control him with these slash commands:

| Command | What it does |
|---------|--------------|
| `/oxy` | Show Oxy |
| `/oxy off` | Hide Oxy |
| `/oxy small`, `/oxy medium`, `/oxy large` | Set his size |

## Oxy in the Claude desktop app

The Claude desktop app loads the same plugin, but its thinking row is one text line tall. So Oxy stands under the last block of each of Claude's replies in the Code tab instead. Under the newest reply he works while Claude works, even while it runs commands before writing anything, celebrates when the turn ends, then rests; under older replies he stands still.

| Command | What it does |
|---------|--------------|
| `/oxy pane` | Move Oxy to a narrow side pane beside the transcript |
| `/oxy reply` | Move Oxy back under the reply |
| `/oxy off` | Hide Oxy |
| `/oxy` | Bring Oxy back. A pane you close by hand stays closed until you run `/oxy` |
| `/oxy small`, `/oxy medium`, `/oxy large` | Set his height |

## Oxy in Codex

In Codex, Oxy is a custom terminal pet. He blinks while idle, works at his laptop while Codex runs, waves when Codex needs you, throws confetti when a turn finishes, and falls flat on an error. Pick or hide him with `/pets`, or say `$oxy on` or `$oxy off`.

Codex decides where Oxy sits and how big he is drawn.

<Callout type="info">
 Codex pets need a terminal with Kitty graphics or Sixel, such as Ghostty, kitty, WezTerm, or iTerm2 3.6+. They don't show inside tmux or Zellij.
